Sharayu Shejale

I study how cities keep cool as the world warms — and for whom. My research follows low-carbon energy transitions in the Global South, working with participatory methods to bring community voices and everyday practices into how just energy futures are imagined.

Research

My doctoral work traces heat stress and adaptation in urban India — the institutional and individual strategies for cooling in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Surat, and the imaginaries embedded within these practices.

Cooling & thermal justice

Fieldwork across three Indian cities, and co-author of Geneva's thermal-justice study with the SWEET SWICE project — on who bears the heat unequally at home.

Just energy transitions

Procedural justice and energy citizenship in Europe — lead author of a review of energy initiatives across eight countries (DIALOGUES, EU Horizon 2020).

Sufficiency & prefiguration

Sufficiency seen from the Global South, from Mumbai's Climate Action Plan to a research agenda for prefigurative sustainability transitions.
